So the sleeping to fight jet lag didn’t seem to work out well. I ended up having to go for a jog at 3am in London, next time I’ll NOT sleep to cure my jet lag.

Yesterday we took the ferry from the beautiful white cliffs of Dover to some lame place in France. It was pretty neat the ferry reminded me of the MV Explorer, especially the familiar ding of the PA system. Lot’s of people got seasick or had to lay down, not me though! Then we began our trek to the land of waffles beer and chocolate. The Delerium Tremmens tastes about 5 times as good directly from the tap. We saw this sweet statue of a little boy peeing, oh wait that was not a neat statue it was just weird and anti-climatic.

The group didn’t turnout that bad afterall, all the saudis were with a different group. We do have a few that hail from the land of Suid Afrika, I write it this way because their native language is Afrikaans. Our tour manager, Dave, said we can just call them Team South Africa. They’re interesting, but not in a way that I want to talk to them. At least the canadians and most of the austrailians are fun.

We’re just leaving for Amsterdam now, dashboard confessional is playing on the bus, oh wait now it’s… Avicii.

Too many hours on planes is the way I can best summarize the last day. Probably nothing close to Miguel’s Adventure, but it was rough nonetheless. We met Kat on the plane, she had a fine combination of Ambien and way too much wine. I was very jealous that she somehow slept for 5 hours. It’s ok though, she gave me an eye-shade so now I too can sleep even during the brightest of daylight.

Can you say globalization, I’m always watching out for the ways our world’s interconnectedness becomes more and more evident. As Bob and I were walking back to our hotel a young black man was blasting the voice of Barack Obama on his car radio. We met with our group which is leaving at 6am to hope on the motor-coach, so far I’d have to say that they don’t seem very enthusiastic overall. Kinda interesting that a large percentage of the group is Saudi Arabian, we’ll see how this goes.

We paid for one of those ridiculously overpriced double decker bus tours around London, it was really interesting. Much better than the experience I had in Barcelona last year, they spoke english! Note that in Barcelona they didn’t speak Spanish, it was just an overpriced bus. The most interesting thing to me was the land rights here. The queen owns the properties in the areas that have crowns on the light posts and other large grouping of property are owned by the royalty as well. Most properties have long term leases paid entirely upfront, I guess this is their form of municipal bond.

After a little more than 26 hours of being awake, it’s time for another nap. Traveling to Brussels in a few hours.
